Back with some wheels

Wow I cannot believe my last post was back in April 2013 almost a year since then, now.

What can I say hey!

So many cakes made since then, I have genuinely lost count, I have enjoyed making every one of them I must say, some proved to be very challenging. The time and effort spent on some of them was enormous but worth it nevertheless.

The Honda CRV themed cake was definitely one of my most demanding cakes. To tell the truth I enjoyed meeting that challenge, although not many hours of sleep occurred during that period, it all paid off eventually. Designing the car alone took roughly six hours, the end result was phenomenal, pictures don’t do it justice.

I approached this cake with intention of creating a sense of a man driving through the wilderness, loved by many this man’s 50th birthday was a token of appreciation for his life. In those years I can only imagine one has been through so many trials and tribulations, to reach such milestone deserves recognition. I did not want to design the car on it’s own, I wanted to create a plot.

The bible scripture hanging over the cake depicts a man of many beautiful qualities, the drive through wilderness shows a man that will be challenged many times in life but will never lose sight of his beliefs and the road to glory.

We all go through journeys in life, in this cake I chose a moment that some of us find in our journeys, the sense of adventure, excitement and eagerness to endeavour in reaching our destination.

Everything seen in the pictures aside from birthday message is edible, the wilderness is filled with a moist red velvet sponge layered with white chocolate cream; the car itself is traditional Victoria sponge filled with fresh cream and jam.

Leave me your thoughts peeps 🙂

Rain, Sun and Berries.

The sun comes the sun goes the rain comes the rains goes but somehow sticks around longer than the sun in the area of London city, spring has arrived.

Cleaning starts and the berries come out, our next article looks at the wonderful world of berries, what you can do and ideas.

Strawberries tend to be the most popular type berries, its sweet tender taste and its luscious vibrant red color makes it a successful decoration tool for any cake however in this week’s article I feel that raspberries should be given a chance. Its uniquely shaped figure makes it a fascinating fruit to cook with or decorate. Its bitter first bite welcomes your next bite, that mysteriously turns sweet, your lips are left splattered with a dull red colour but yet it is an experience not forgotten.

Victoria sponge mixed with cream cheese icing with berries in between the layers.

In this cake, I thought I would stick with the traditional and play it safe. A wealthy Victorian sponge made with organic eggs and sprinkles off everything nice seems to be the success of this cake recipe.

The cream cheese somehow seems odd, you don’t often tend to find raspberries associating themselves with this

cream however it is often associated with whipped cream. Correct me if am wrong!

The initial combination of the bitterness from the raspberries mixing together with the cream cheese icing, makes it  somehow a pleasant new experience that one can naturally enjoy, the Victorian sponge was not introduced as a fluke. Its classic moist texture acts as a median to balance the two flavours and create a tender platform and a luscious cake to enjoy.

Happy baking guys, enjoy your spring.

A crowd pleaser: The Chocolate Brownie

My next wonderful bite is dedicated to a very popular crowd pleaser: The Chocolate Brownie.

In my baking journey so far I have found myself indulged in the cake world searching that perfect sweet tooth desire, and my God, so many have been found. I often find myself experimenting with various recipes, add this, take that, and have gotten some horrid outcomes and some finger licking results.

My memory of a typical factory made chocolate brownie is out shadowed by the wonders that come out my oven now. Those factory made brownies always made me feel sick, no real texture, looks wise had no appeal, my interest for brownies was at its lowest. Until that day I tried a home baked slice.

A appreciated and loved Chocolate Brownie requires more than just its good artificial looks. That perfect slice can vary, but as I progressed on my journey through the baking world, I began to see and understand that a brownie is a cake that has to be rich in texture, it’s a must! The chocolate and butter once blended must formulate a beautiful combination when baked and chilled. That secret ingredient can be the factor that defines how often you return to grab another slice. If you’re not careful the whole brownie could be gone before you know it.
